I didn't for a minute assume that everyone should be expected to volunteer, and I think that you comment re the public consultation, or apparent lack of it, are appalling and very sad. I'm horrified to hear all this from you, as I was hoping someone might prove me wrong re consultation but it seems they aren't about to.
I signed the petition a good while back and am now asking people to read the comments so that they can sign it too.
Best wishes Sara Vennnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3628970595252387812.post-83317609566282705452015-01-09T23:42:44.778+00:002015-01-09T23:42:44.778+00:00We're SE1 locals are were not consulted at all...We're SE1 locals are were not consulted at all about the GB and we live metres away. We don't want mass volunteering opportunities to weed the shrubs on this vanity project and clear up after tourists on the bridge. We don't want to get involved with someone else's idea of a tourist attraction as you suggested; We don't want to be the school janitors of this project (and be grateful for it?).

We don't all want to develop horticulture skills just because it's been built without our consent and we have to put up with it. The only full-time jobs created will be for the developers i.e properly trained construction workers/builders employed by Arup - you can't just walk into construction just because you happen to be local and to offer jobs to locals only is discrimination. There will only be a handful of gardening jobs and even then you need to be the best person for the job not just because you're local.

This bridge will create pressure on already an depleted police force and other public services e.g. ambulances, refuse collections etc. It's just going to cost us ALL more money - forever.

Inclusive? The Garden Bridge Trust and TfL have burned their 'bridges' there. They've lied and deceived and presented this as a fait accompli all produced behind our backs. They've been scornful and silent; we'll never trust them because our needs are not in their minds.

This is our home; Waterloo is a residential area as well as a central zone for the arts and culture - but there has to be a line drawn somewhere and the South Bank is full to capacity as it is, positively bursting at the seams.

Sorry, rant over but here is something positive; a petition against the bridge as it's just an ill-conceived money wasting white elephant for Boris & his chums: https://www.change.org/p/eric-pickles-eric-pickles-put-the-garden-bridge-where-it-s-needed-without-using-public-funds-or-scrap-the-ideaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3628970595252387812.post-2854715114642677002015-01-09T22:20:08.327+00:002015-01-09T22:20:08.327+00:00Well said Sara!Well said Sara!Gwenfar's Gardenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07326735419091325096noreply@blogger.com
